Losenheim Castle

The construction of Losenheim Castle is presumed to have taken place as early as the late 12th century, based on archaeological findings. At the beginning of the 13th century, the Gleißenfeld-Puchberg family emerged as a dominant force in the Puchberg valley, playing a significant role in the construction of Puchberg Castle, Losenheim Castle, and another complex on the Romaikogel. The noble family of Losenheim is documented from the 13th to the 14th century. A Wulfing von Losenheim is mentioned in 1220, and a Dietmar von Losenheim in 1222 and 1225. They served as ministeriales to the Babenberg dukes, particularly Leopold VI. Before September 3, 1264, Rüdiger von Losenheim ceded lands and gardens in Höflein to Heiligenkreuz Abbey and on the same day also renounced the advowson over a tithe there.
