The Mallentein castle ruin, also known as Ödenfest, is a medieval hilltop castle at an elevation of approximately 1011 meters above the village of Malta in Carinthia, Austria. Its history dates back to the 11th century, but its decay began as early as the 14th century.

The construction of Mallentein Castle is presumed to have taken place in the 11th century, although the locality of Malta was already mentioned in the 10th century. The first documented mention of the castle occurred between 1075 and 1090, when it was owned by the nobleman Heimo, a ministerialis of the Diocese of Brixen.
