The Mandelberg castle ruin, also known as Mantelberg ruin, is a hilltop castle in Pfalzgrafenweiler-Bösingen, in the Freudenstadt district of Baden-Württemberg.

History+

Archaeological findings suggest that a predecessor complex already existed in the 11th century. The first documented mention of Mandelberg Castle occurred in 1287. In 1385, Count Wolf von Eberstein acquired the complex for 1000 guilders from Hans Müller von Mandelberg. Just two years later, in 1387, the castle was already owned by Margrave Rudolf von Baden. An event occurred in 1525 when the castle completely burned down during the Peasants' War and was not rebuilt thereafter. Archaeological investigations confirmed this destruction and found no evidence of later use.
