Merburg Castle
The Merburg castle ruin in Kirrberg, a district of Homburg, is one of the oldest and smallest castles in the region. It stands on the Malafelsen, which rises only slightly above the Lambsbach valley.
History+
The origins of the Merburg date back to the 11th century. According to tradition, the complex was built during the Salian period between 1024 and 1080. The knights of Merburg were first mentioned in documents in 1172 as ministeriales. Excavations took place between 1975 and 1980, which added the ruin to the historical inventory and secured its remains.
