Morau Castle

The history of Morau Castle is marked by destruction. In 1427, the castle fell victim to the Hussites and was completely destroyed. Whether it already bore the name Morau at that time is not recorded, nor is the identity of its original builders. It was not until the mid-17th century, specifically 1650, that the name Morau reappeared when Hanns Dietmayr, judge of Haslach, named himself after it. This indicates that the site of the former castle, despite its ruined state, remained associated with noble rights. An oral tradition suggests that the stones of the castle were used in the 18th century for the construction of the church tower of St. Oswald.
