Naumburg Castle

The first documented mention of Naumburg, whose name suggests a “new castle,” likely occurred in 1146 when Raugraf Emicho referred to himself as “Graf von Nuenburc.” Half a century later, Werner von Bolanden claimed the castle as a fief from Duke Konrad. In 1323, Raugraf Konrad V of the Stolzenberg line pledged the “Veste Nuenburg” to Archbishop Balduin of Trier. Just two years later, in 1325, Raugraf Heinrich of the Altenbaumburg line testamentarily arranged for the ownership of Nauwenborg Castle in favor of his family. Due to financial difficulties, the Raugrafs gradually sold off their possessions. Thus, Raugraf Georg II pledged half the castle to Count Walram of Sponheim in 1349, and Raugraf Ruprecht IV did the same with further lands in 1362.
