Nebra Castle

The first documented mention of Nebra Castle dates back to 1207. Initially, it served as a residence for the Landgraves of Thuringia until it passed into the possession of the Counts of Querfurt in 1247. The castle was repeatedly the scene of sieges and destructions, for instance in 1341 by Frederick the Serious and again during the Saxon Fratricidal War between 1446 and 1451 by troops of Elector Frederick II. Later, the complex was granted as a fief under Frederick von Nißmitz. Under Quirin and Georg von Nißmitz, the castle underwent a transformation into a Renaissance palace, with parts being demolished. The Nißmitz family held the property until 1718.
