The Neidenfels castle ruin, a former hilltop castle dating back to the 14th century, stands on a rocky outcrop above the village of the same name in Rhineland-Palatinate.

History+

Around 1330, Count Palatine Rudolf II had Neidenfels Castle built as a replacement for the nearby Lichtenstein Castle. The first written mention of the complex dates back to 1338. The feudal lords changed, including the Lords of Lichtenstein and later the Nobles of Steinhausen. In 1577, Peter Beutterich, a diplomat and government member, received the castle from Elector Johann Casimir.
