On a rock spur above the confluence of the Urach and the Breg rises the castle ruin Neu-Fürstenberg, a former spur castle. Its location in the Black Forest once served to secure important trade routes and control regional raw material deposits.

History+

Presumably around the year 1360, the Counts of Fürstenberg had Neu-Fürstenberg Castle built on the foundations of an older 12th-century complex. Its main task was to protect the connecting road between the Baar and Breisgau regions and to monitor iron processing and ore deposits in the Eisenbach valley. The castle was first mentioned in a document in 1381. In 1485, it was deemed insignificant by Count Heinrich VI of Fürstenberg. Its ultimate fate was sealed during the German Peasants' War, when it was destroyed on May 8, 1525, by the “Klettgauer Haufen” under Hans Müller.
