Neu-Fürstenberg Castle
Neu-Fürstenberg Castle is a ruined spur castle located on an 810 m above sea level rock spur above the confluence of the Urach and Breg rivers in the Hammereisenbach-Bregenbach district of the city of Vöhrenbach in the Schwarzwald-Baar district in Baden-Württemberg.
The spur castle was presumably built around 1360 by the Counts of Fürstenberg on an earlier 12th-century site to secure the connecting road between Baar and Breisgau and to control the ore deposits and their processing in the Eisenbach Valley. The castle was mentioned in 1381, described as a "worthless house" in 1485 by Count Heinrich VI of Fürstenberg, and destroyed on May 8, 1525, during the German Peasants' War by the "Klettgau Haufen" under Hans Müller.
Layout+
The relatively small castle complex formed an irregular quadrangle without a keep. The complex was protected by a mighty 15-meter-high and 3.5-meter-thick shield wall to the west. An artificial moat separated the castle site from the mountain. Of the former castle complex, in addition to significant foundations of the core castle and the remains of a presumed outer bailey, the mighty shield wall is still preserved.
