The Neuburg castle ruin stands on an inselberg in the Rhine Valley in Koblach, Vorarlberg, Austria.

History+

The Neuburg Castle was first documented in 1152 as property of the Welfs. In 1191, it came under Staufer possession before being ruled by the Thumb von Neuburg family from 1268. In 1363, the castle and its dominion were sold to Austria. In the following centuries, Neuburg was administered by bailiffs or pledged to various noble families, including the Counts of Montfort (from 1405), the Counts of Hohenems (from 1589), and the Counts of Clary-Aldringen (from 1679). The castle ceased to be used in 1744 and was demolished in 1769. Since 1956, preservation work has been carried out on the ruin.
