The castle ruin Neuhaus, a spur castle, is situated on a mountain spur above the Tauber Valley. Located near Igersheim in the Main-Tauber district, Baden-Württemberg, it is today a landmark amidst the "Neuhaus" nature reserve.

History+

The origins of Neuhaus Castle probably date back to the 13th century, with its first documented mention in 1281. Originally owned by the Lords of Hohenlohe-Brauneck, the castle became a fief of the Diocese of Würzburg in 1320. From then on, it formed the center of the Teutonic Order's Neuhaus office, which included several surrounding villages. The castle experienced destruction and reconstruction, particularly during the Peasants' War and the Schmalkaldic War.
