Neuhausen Old Castle

The history of Neuhausen dates back a long way: as early as 1147, the complex was destroyed during a crusade by Margrave Albrecht the Bear against the pagan Wends. Its first documented mention as “novum castrum prope Perleberg” occurred in 1318. In 1334, Neuhausen belonged to the Perleberg region and was pledged by the margrave to Heinrich von Schwerin. Only eleven years later, in 1345, Margrave Ludwig I enfeoffed the knight Nicolaus von Lobeck with the property. From 1396, the von Rohr family were the owners. In 1618, this family sold half of Neuhausen to Georg von Winterfeld, who acquired the remaining share in 1712. Johann Gebhard von Winterfeld had the manor house converted into a baroque three-wing complex in 1738, incorporating parts of the old castle, such as vaulted cellars, the chapel, and the gate passage. Elements of the Renaissance complex, including a tower, also remained. Further renovations and refurbishments of the manor house and farmyard, including the addition of an extra floor to the side wings, took place in 1903. In 1944, the property passed to the von Busse family, who were, however, dispossessed and expelled in 1945.
