Niederviehhausen Castle

The origins of Niederviehhausen Castle date back to the 12th century, with its first documented mention in 1181, when a Brouno de Vienhhausen was named. The Lords of Viehhausen, likely ministeriales of the Regensburg burgrave, owned the complex until 1266. At the end of the 13th century, the castle passed into the possession of the Wittelsbach family, who managed it with caretakers until the 14th century. It is believed that after 1368, the castle was held as collateral by the Bavarian duke and was in the possession of the Chamerauer robber knights. By an imperial arbitration, the castle returned to the Wittelsbachs in 1434. After several changes of ownership, the castle was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War.
