The remains of the castle can be visited

In the 12th century, Stainach was the ancestral seat of the Traungauer, and subsequently of the Lords of Stainach. The residential tower Oberstainach was likely built in the late 13th to early 14th century. It could be the successor building to the tower of Stainach, which was destroyed by Salzburg troops in 1289.
