Obersulzbürg Castle
The Obersulzbürg castle ruin, also known as Obersulzbürg Castle, is on a mountain plateau above the Sulzbürg district of the municipality of Mühlhausen in the Neumarkt district in the Upper Palatinate.
History+
In the 13th century, the castle was built by the Lords of Sulzbürg, who served the Holy Roman Empire as ministeriales and later adopted the name Wolfstein. In the 16th century, the complex was expanded into a castle-like structure, but was destroyed in 1634 and subsequently rebuilt. After the extinction of the Wolfstein family, the castle served as a residence for officials. In the course of secularization in 1804, it was eventually sold to private individuals for demolition.
