Odenbach Castle

The origins of Odenbach Castle date back to between 1150 and 1180, when it was built by the Counts of Veldenz. A first documentary mention dates to the year 1202. The complex came into the possession of the Duchy of Palatinate-Zweibrücken. Between 1620 and 1623, the castle became uninhabitable, and in 1683, the tower suffered damage from an explosion by French troops. A further collapse of the remaining castle parts occurred in the winter of 1850/51. A historical side note is the connection to Duke Friedrich Ludwig of Palatinate-Zweibrücken-Landsberg, whose children from a non-noble marriage bore the title "Freiherrn von Fürstenwärther, Burgsassen zu Odenbach," even though the castle was already uninhabitable at that time.
