Pittersberg Castle
The Pittersberg Castle Ruin, once a rock castle, is on a rock cone on the southern side of the Gailberg Saddle.
History+
Pittersberg Castle was first documented in 1252, when it was owned by the County of Görz. Following the Peace of Pusarnitz, the complex came into Habsburg possession. The Habsburgs subsequently granted the castle to administrators, who resided there. Pittersberg also served as the seat of a regional court but had already fallen into ruin by the mid-17th century.

The Pittersberg Castle Ruin is located at approximately 915 meters above sea level, isolated on a rock cone near Laas, a district of the municipality of Kötschach-Mauthen in the Hermagor district, Carinthia, Austria.

Surviving elements include parts of a keep, whose origins possibly date back to Roman times, sections of a curtain wall, and a circular cistern.
