Rabeneck Castle

Rabeneck Castle was built around 1240 by the Lords of Weißenstein as a lowland castle and was inhabited until approximately 1295. The name Rabeneck is not of historical origin, but only became common after 1835; before that, the designation Weißenstein Castle was used. The complex was under the feudal lordship of the Margraves of Baden and changed hands several times, including the Lords of Kaltental, Ehingen, and Neuhausen. At the end of the 16th century, it fell to Martin von Remchingen. In 1649, the castle was acquired by a citizen and, with official permission, used as a quarry. It was not until 1855 that the Baden state acquired the remains of the castle, presumably on the initiative of the monument conservator Ludwig Naeher, and stopped further demolition.
