Rabenswald Castle

The Rabenswald Castle Ruin, a former spur castle, is located on a mountain spur in the Rabenswald. The Counts of Wiehe, descendants of the Kevernburg counts, had Rabenswald Castle built between 1233 and 1237. It served as a new residence for the noble family, who subsequently called themselves Counts of Rabenswalde-Wiehe, and was the main seat of the County of Rabenswalde. The complex consisted of an outer bailey and a main castle, protected by an earthwork. During the Thuringian Counts' War (1342–1346), the castle was completely destroyed and razed to the ground around 1350.
