Ramburg Castle

The remains of the Castle can be visited

In Ramberg in Rhineland-Palatinate, the Ramburg castle ruin stands on a mountain spur. As a former imperial castle, it served to protect the Trifels imperial castle.

History+

The Ramburg was built in the 12th century under the rule of the Staufer as an imperial castle. Imperial ministerials are documented as residents from 1163 onwards. In 1519, Hans von Ramburg, the last representative of the Ramburger noble family, sold the castle to the Dalberg family. Just six years later, during the Peasants' War, the castle was completely destroyed by fire. The ruin came into the possession of the Counts of Löwenstein in 1540 through purchase. After a lightning strike in 1560, which resulted in another complete destruction, the Ramburg was rebuilt as a residential castle.
