Ramstein Castle

The origins of Ramstein Castle date back to before 1137. It served as the namesake center for the Lords of Ramstein, a lineage that emerged from the Lords of Obereschach. After this line died out around 1280, the dominion passed to the Lords of Falkenstein-Ramstein. In 1411, the castle was besieged, captured, and destroyed by troops of Konrad von Fürstenberg and the city of Strasbourg, but was restored by 1428. By 1449, Ramstein was pledged to Elisabeth von Rechberg. A destruction occurred in 1452 after Hans von Rechberg and Heinrich von Eisenburg held merchants captive.
