Randegg Castle

As early as before 1100, a castle site on the hill above the village was mentioned. The first documented mention of the castle took place around 1200. Between 1201 and 1225, Otto and Heinrich von Randegg appeared several times as witnesses. In 1263, Engelschalk von Reinsberg held the castle as a fief of the Bishops of Freising.

Although Edelschalk left no sons in 1269, his widow Adelheid did not surrender the castle. After long disputes over the castle, the Bishop of Freising and Adelheid reached a settlement in 1294. She was allowed to keep the fortress for the rest of her life as a dower. When Adelheid died in 1315, the Bishop was able to enfeoff the castle. In 1319, Albrecht von Randegg is mentioned, but soon the Zinzendorfers of Niederhausegg became the feudal lords.

During the Habsburg fratricidal war in 1412, the Wallseer destroyed the fortress, but they had to return it to the Zinzendorfers. Since in 1539 only an "Amt Randegg" (Randegg Office) was mentioned, the defensive structure must have already fallen into disrepair or not been rebuilt.
