The remains of the Castle can be visited

Near Hohenleuben in the Thuringian district of Greiz lies the castle ruin Reichenfels, a medieval spur castle. Its remains today form the core of the district of the same name.

History+

The origins of Reichenfels Castle presumably date back to the 12th century, when it was built by the Vögte of Weida. In 1356, ownership transferred to the Vögte of Gera. In the mid-16th century, specifically 1550, the Burgraves of Meißen zu Plauen acquired the complex and garrisoned it with noble families from the Vogtland. In 1703, Count Heinrich XXIV. Reuß zu Köstritz purchased the castle. From the 18th century onwards, a gradual decay set in. Prince Heinrich XLIII.
