The Reichenstein Castle Ruin, a hillside castle, is at approximately 230 meters above sea level in Rhineland-Palatinate. It lies above the Holzbach, opposite the village of the same name, and its residential tower still shapes the landscape today.

History+

The construction of Reichenstein Castle took place between 1310 and 1320 under Ludwig III of Reichenstein. It served to protect his territory and possibly as a customs station. Its decline began as early as the 16th century, and in 1618, it was destroyed by the Count of Wied to prevent its acquisition by the Count of Sayn.
