In the Oberreifenberg district of Schmitten in the Hochtaunus, Hesse, the Reifenberg Castle Ruin stands at an elevation of approximately 621 meters.

History+

The first documented mention of Reifenberg Castle dates back to 1331, though its origins likely extend more than a century further, possibly even to the 10th or 11th century. It was the ancestral seat of the noble Reiffenberger family, who maintained close ties with the Hattsteiners. The castle was involved in numerous conflicts. Particularly noteworthy is the Hattstein Feud from 1428 to 1435, during which the Reiffenbergers conquered Hattstein Castle in 1432 and destroyed it in 1467.
