History+
The origins of Reinsberg Castle date back to the year 1000, when it was built for protection against Slavic incursions and to secure the important Iron Road. The complex experienced its heyday in the 13th and 14th centuries. A decisive turning point was marked in 1597 when the castle was plundered, initiating its gradual decay. The introduction of the roof tax under Emperor Joseph II ultimately sealed the castle's fate as an inhabited structure.
