Southeast of Bürs in the Bludenz district of Vorarlberg lies the castle ruin Rosenegg, a medieval defensive structure. The keep now shapes the landscape.

History+

The Counts of Werdenberg-Heiligenberg built Rosenegg Castle around the mid-13th century. Initially, the Lordship of Rosenegg was part of the County of Sonnenberg. In 1405, during the Appenzell War, the castle suffered damage from the Walgauers, who were allied with the Appenzellers. It is presumed that the complex was rebuilt afterwards and granted as an Austrian fief between 1418 and 1420 after its transfer to Austria. The castle fell into disrepair before 1600, after the Lordship of Rosenegg was merged with the Lordship of Bludenz in 1474.
