Ruchenstein Castle

Ruchenstein Castle was built in 1262, on the same hill as the neighboring Kasteln Castle. Two years later, in 1264, the Habsburgs assumed sovereignty after the Kyburg dynasty died out. In 1311, the Lords of Mülinen acquired the village and both castles, forming the small lordship of Kasteln. Even after the city of Bern conquered the Schenkenbergertal in 1460, the Lords of Mülinen retained their rights, including lower jurisdiction.
