The Ruppendorf Castle Ruin, once a moated castle, is situated in the southern part of Ruppendorf, a district of the municipality of Klingenberg.

History+

The origins of the Ruppendorf moated castle date back to approximately 800 AD, when it was established as a border fortification. Its first documented mention occurred in 1350 in connection with Heinrich von Reichstaedt, a vassal of the Margraves of Meissen, who resided at the castle at that time. Following the fall of Dohna Castle and the dissolution of the Burggraviate at the end of the Dohna Feud in 1402, Ruppendorf Castle lost its military significance and subsequently served as a fortified farm.
