The remains of the castle can be visited

Säusenstein Castle was probably built around 1295 by Duke Albrecht to protect mining operations and was already abandoned in the 15th century. It was originally called Slaednich; the name Säusenstein likely comes from the "roaring" (Gesäuse) of the gorge stream raging below the castle site.
