Saxenegg Castle

The exact time of construction of Saxenegg Castle is unknown, but its first documented mention was on March 12, 1297, when Ulrich and Wernhart den Sechseneker were named as owners. In 1342, Duke Albrecht II enfeoffed Burghart dem Kneusser with the castle. Hans der Kneusser sold the complex to Duke Albrecht III in 1382. At that time, the Saxenegg dominion included 14 farms, 22.5 fiefs, and 23 homesteads in the surrounding parishes. In the following decades, the dominion changed hands several times, including Wolf dem Schenk von Dobra (1403), Hans den Ruckendorfer (1403), Albrecht dem Schweinwarter (1405), and the brothers Erhard and Wilhelm von Zelking (1410). The Zelking family remained in possession of Saxenegg until King Albrecht granted them permission on May 26, 1438, to demolish the dilapidated castle.
