Schadeck Castle

Schadeck Castle was presumably built by Ulrich II von Steinach, the youngest son of Ulrich I, as the fourth and last of the Neckarsteinach castles. For its construction, a part of the rock had to be removed to create an area. The name “Schadeck,” formerly “Schadheck,” means swallow's nest and gave the noble line of Landschad von Steinach its name. In 1335, Schadeck Castle was sold in equal halves by Bligger X and Dieter I Landschad von Steinach to the chapters of Worms and Mainz. Around 1350, the Worms share passed violently to Mainz. Later, in 1395, the castle was pledged in shares to descendants of Eberhard von Rosenberg. In 1428, Archbishop Konrad of Mainz owned the entire castle and pledged it to Dieter II Landschad von Steinach.
