Scharfeneck Castle

The origins of the castle, known as "Veste Scheinfeld" until the 16th century, likely date back to the 6th century, founded by a Frankish nobleman. In the High Middle Ages, it was the ancestral seat of the noble family of Scheinfeld. Around 1202, Knight Friedrich de Scevelt pledged his property to Bishop Thiemo of Bamberg before participating in the Fourth Crusade. After his death, the castle passed into the possession of the Diocese of Bamberg. In 1339, it was mentioned in the Bamberg castle guard register when Johann von Dachsbach received a hearth there. After 1366, the castle changed hands several times.
