Schneeburg Castle

The origins of Schneeburg are often associated with the Snewlins, a Freiburg family from the 13th century, who are considered possible builders and namesakes. Another theory attributes the construction of the castle, first mentioned in a document in 1312, to the Lords of Hornberg. In 1349, Werner von Hornberg transferred the castle as a fief to the monastery of Sankt Gallen, but received it back as a male fief, thus creating the small feudal lordship of Ebringen. Nevertheless, the Lords Schnewlin seem to have retained certain rights to the castle, as evidenced by a contract from 1387 between them and the Hornberg brothers.
