Schweppermannsburg Castle

The exact construction period of Schweppermannsburg is not documented, but archaeological finds from 2004 indicate construction activities in the 13th century. Ceramic finds suggest settlement of the area as early as between the 9th and 12th centuries. The castle of Pfaffenhofen was first mentioned in a document in 1329 in the Treaty of Pavia, when half of the complex fell to Duke Ludwig the Bavarian. Between 1335 and 1352, Hartung der Schweppermann, son of Seyfried Schweppermann, was verifiable as a co-owner of the castle. At the end of the 14th century, Ulrich der Sweppermann is mentioned as the lord of the castle, whose family later gave the castle its name.
