Seisenburg Castle

The first mention of Seisenburg dates back to 1126, when it was owned by Heinrich von Polheim, who had received it as collateral from the Margraves of Seyr six years prior. In 1278 it belonged to Philipp von Polheim, and in 1329 to the brothers Wernher, Gottfried, and Heimbert von Polheim. A portion of the castle was sold to Eberhard von Wallsee in 1329, while Albert von Volkensdorfer acquired the remaining shares. From 1334 onwards, Seisenburg was largely owned by the Dukes of Austria throughout the Middle Ages, though they often mortgaged it. In 1468, the castle was severely damaged after a siege by provincial governor Reinbrecht V. von Wallsee, as its then-owner, imperial captain Nabuchodonsor Nankenreuter, was operating as a robber knight.
