Senftenberg Castle

The first documented mention of the castle and its lords, the family of Senftenberg, dates back to April 26, 1197, when a Rudegerus de Senftenberc was named as a witness. Originally built as a hilltop castle by the Lengenbach family, who also owned castles in Rehberg, it later passed to relatives who adopted the names Senftenberg and Minnenbach. In the 13th century, the castle was owned by the Zebringers, and in the 14th and 15th centuries, it belonged to the Wallseers. Between 1407 and 1409, the complex suffered partial damage during the Guardianship Feuds but was subsequently repaired. During the first Siege of Vienna by the Turks, it served as a refuge for the local population. Around 1520, highwaymen used the castle as a hideout.
