The Silberberg Castle Ruin in Carinthia was originally conceived as a valley barrier and evolved into a noble residence. The region was known for its raw material deposits since prehistoric and Roman times.

History+

The first documented mention of the castle dates back to 1214, when the brothers Leonhard, Hermann, and Heinrich von Silberberg were named. This lineage, which had its roots with the Karlsbergers, owned the complex until its extinction in 1756. In 1280, Heinrich von Silberberg, the bailiff of Göss Monastery in Styria, became embroiled in a feud with the monastery and was convicted of robbery. Shortly thereafter, another dispute with the Salzburg Church over properties in Lungau followed. Duke Otto of Carinthia enfeoffed Ulrich von Silberberg with Reinegg Castle near Brückl in 1309.
