Sperberseck Castle
The Sperberseck ruin is a castle ruin south of the Gutenberg district of the municipality of Lenningen in the Esslingen district in Baden-Württemberg. The ruin is located in a forest between Böhringen and Donnstetten on a mountain spur, making Sperberseck Castle a so-called spur castle. The terrain on which the castle stood, which slopes very steeply on three sides, occupies a relatively small area.
The Staufer-era castle was built in the 12th century and was the seat of the Lords of Sperberseck since 1140. They were ministeriales, who were first in Zähringen, later in Teck, and then in Württemberg service. The castle received a castle chapel in 1385. However, it was abandoned and fell into disrepair at the beginning of the 15th century.

Only remnants of walls and some excavated remains of the former castle complex have been preserved. For example, at the eastern end of the castle, facing the courtyard, a wall of the palas and on the west side foundation or defensive walls. The freely accessible castle ruin is surrounded by an outer shield wall, 3.1 meters thick and also preserved for about 17 meters. In front of it lies a first neck ditch and a second, even deeper ditch.
