Sperberseck Castle
South of the Lenningen district of Gutenberg in Baden-Württemberg is the castle ruin Sperberseck, a spur castle from the Staufer era.
History+
Sperberseck Castle was built in the 12th century and served as the ancestral seat of the Lords of Sperberseck from 1140. These ministeriales initially served the Zähringer, later the Dukes of Teck, and finally the Counts of Württemberg. In 1385, a chapel was added to the castle complex. However, the castle was abandoned at the beginning of the 15th century and gradually fell into disrepair.

Today, only remnants of walls and excavated foundations remain of the castle complex. These include parts of the palas wall in the east and foundation walls in the west. An outer shield wall, 3.1 meters thick and about 17 meters long, is also still visible. The freely accessible castle ruin is surrounded by two neck ditches and can be visited.
