The Staufeneck Castle Ruin is located in Salach in the Göppingen district, Baden-Württemberg. This hilltop castle is now home to a restaurant with a hotel.

History+

The construction of Staufeneck Castle is dated in sources to either 1080 or 1240. It was built by the Lords of Staufeneck, whose coat of arms featured a lion, suggesting a possible kinship with the Staufer dynasty. In 1333, the complex passed into the possession of the Lords of Rechberg zu Staufeneck. This lineage died out in 1599, and the castle subsequently saw numerous changes of ownership through purchase or marriage.
