Steinamwasser Castle

The exact time of the construction of Steinamwasser Castle is unknown, but its erection is presumed to be in the 12th century. As early as 1144, a “Syboto von Steinigewasser” appeared as a witness in a document. The castle itself was first mentioned in a document on September 11, 1295, when Bishop Arnold von Solms pledged it to Jutta von Leuchtenberg. In the 14th century, it was owned by the “Stören von Störenstein”. At the beginning of the 15th century, after its first destruction in the war between the Bavarian Palatinate counts and King Wenceslaus, the ruin returned to the Diocese of Bamberg. Hans Streber received the castle site as a fief in 1405 and rebuilt the complex within two years, albeit with structural restrictions.
