Steinbrück Castle
The Steinbrück Castle Ruin is a former moated castle in Söhlde in the district of Hildesheim, Lower Saxony. Its position on the border between the Diocese of Hildesheim and the Duchy of Brunswick made it a historical structure in the region.
History+
The construction of Steinbrück Castle took place in 1383 under Bishop Gerhard von Berg. As early as 1425, ownership, along with jurisdiction, transferred to the Hildesheim Cathedral Chapter, forming the basis for the later Amt Steinbrück, which existed until the 19th century and held market and town rights. In 1523, the area was awarded to Duke Heinrich the Younger of Brunswick in the Quedlinburg Recess. His son, Duke Julius of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, had the castle expanded in 1573.
