In Angermünde-Stolpe in the Uckermark district of Brandenburg, the Stolpe Castle Ruin is located. Its most prominent feature is the “Grützpott” (Porridge Pot), a residential tower that, with an outer diameter of 18 meters, is one of the largest of its kind in Germany.

History+

Originally, a Slavic rampart dating back to the 7th/8th century stood on this site. Between 1170 and 1190, the Dukes of Pomerania had a fortified residential tower built. Around 1250, the southern Uckermark came into the possession of the Ascanians, and the castle became the seat of a Vogt for the Brandenburg margraves. The town of Stolpe received town rights in 1286. After changing ownership, including a pledge to the Archbishopric of Magdeburg and a return to Brandenburg, Margrave Ludwig II ceded the castle to Pomerania in 1355.
