The Strahlenfels castle ruin, a former spur castle, is on a rock reef near Simmelsdorf-Strahlenfels in the Nuremberg Land. Only a few wall remnants remain, the castle rock today serves as a climbing rock.

History+

The first documented mention of Strahlenfels Castle occurred in 1254, when “Heinricus de Stralenvels” was named as a witness, indicating its construction shortly before. The ministeriales of Strahlenfels soon came into conflict with the ministeriales of Wildenstein, who built Wildenfels Castle within sight. Around 1310, the Strahlenfels family moved their seat to Reichenschwand moated castle and ceded Strahlenfels to the Wildenstein family. In 1354, the castle was transferred by Heinrich V. von Wildenstein as a Bohemian fief to King Charles IV and sold to him in 1360.
