Strengifelsen Castle

The complex was rediscovered in 1926, with its former function not clearly established. It is presumed to have served as a refuge castle as early as the 9th century and was subsequently used at various times. A deed of gift from 1345 suggests habitation. The castle was likely owned by the Lords of Tegerfelden-Rheinfelden, whose relationship to the noble family of the same name in the Canton of Aargau is not fully clarified. It is believed that the castle was destroyed in the 13th century during conflicts with Rudolf von Habsburg.
