Tannenfels Castle

The visible walls of the tower castle were built in the first half of the 13th century. However, archaeological finds, including pottery and an older moat, suggest that the castle rock was already settled in the 11th or early 12th century, with an earlier structure completely removed for the later construction. The castle was not inhabited for long; it fell victim to a fire in the first half of the 14th century. Three arrowheads found in a burnt layer suggest warlike conflicts as the cause. No associated noble family is known, and a family of Tannenfels located in the Allgäu has no connection to this castle.
