Tegerfelden Castle

The former hilltop castle Tegerfelden was built towards the end of the 11th century and served as the ancestral seat of the Barons of Tegerfelden. In 1236, the inheritance passed to Ita, the heiress of Walther III of Tegerfelden, and her husband Ulrich von Klingen, as the Tegerfelden lineage died out in the male line with the death of Walther III around 1254. Originally, the castle consisted of a stone manor house and wooden buildings, secured by a palisade and two moats. After a fire at the end of the 12th century, it was rebuilt, this time with a stone tower, a curtain wall, and other stone structures, as well as two timber-framed houses. In the early 13th century, an expansion added a timber-framed house with a cellar.
