Treuenfels Castle

Treuenfels Castle (also Bernhardsschlösschen) is the ruin of a spur castle on a mountain spur south of the Altenbaumburg ruin near the municipality of Altenbamberg in the district of Bad Kreuznach in Rhineland-Pfalz.

In 1357, Knight Diez von Wachenheim, the brothers Philipp and Heinrich von Montfort, Berthold called Stange von (Neu)-Bamberg, and the squire Johann Schweifkrusel von Partenheim received permission from Count Palatine Ruprecht II to build a castle Truwenfels on the mountain Lusebohel. The Montforts originated from the nearby Hallgarten Castle, which was built in the 12th century by the Counts of Veldenz to protect the military road from Obermoschel to Sponheim. Eberhard von Lautern was appointed as a vassal. In 1247, his son called himself Knight of Montfort. In 1432, the Montfort family died out here.

In the 16th century, the castle complex was owned by Eberhard Vetzer von Geispitzheim and a Philipp Back as a Palatinate fief, and until the 17th century, it was owned by the Sturmfeder family, owners of the Sturmfeder Castle in Dirmstein.
