The Türkensturz castle ruin, an artificial ruin from 1824, stands on a rock face in Gleissenfeld, a district of Scheiblingkirchen-Thernberg-Gleissenfeld in Lower Austria.

History+

The name Türkensturz dates back to the time of the Turkish Wars, specifically to the years 1529 and 1532, when Turkish troops were present in the Pittental valley. Although there are no confirmed historical accounts of the exact naming, several legends exist. One tells how a group of Turkish riders, pursuing a girl, plunged into the abyss at the edge of the cliff when the girl jumped aside.
