The remains of the ruins can be visited

The Turmhölzle castle ruin, a spur castle, has remains on a spur-like outcrop of the Hohe Möhr near Schopfheim-Raitbach in Baden-Württemberg. Although its history remains obscure, preserved wall remnants point to a High Medieval complex.

The exact period of construction for Turmhölzle Castle is unknown, but the masonry of the keep suggests it was built in the 12th century. Property registers of St. Blasien Monastery from the 15th century mention the castle area under the name “Fernegg”. A document from 1360 refers to a farm “unter der Egge,” which could also point to the castle. It is believed that the castle served the monastery as a fief for ministeriales and helped secure the monastic lordship. Extensive excavations were carried out at the ruin in the summer of 1981.
